I’ve used so many software that I don’t even remember how many and in those also most I don’t know what they do. I just install them and use them practically to know what they do. 4_udc.jpgFew weeks ago, I faced a small problem. I had a presentation and I needed to put some stats which were in tabular formats from an excel file to my presentation slide. I could just insert the table in the slide and enter all the data one by one but that would consume a lot of my time. It would’ve been easier if I could just get that table somehow in a graphical format (.bmp, .jpeg, .tiff, etc.) so that I can easily insert it in the presentation slide. I thought of using the ‘PrintScreen’ button but the table was a little longer than the page. A friend then suggested me ‘Universal Document Converter’. I quickly downloaded it and after that it was just few seconds job to get the table in desired graphical format and insert it in the presentation slide.

I’m sure that not just in offices but most of the personally used computers too have installed Microsoft Office in it. I too have it in my PC. I mostly use Word, Excel and Access. I though that I know a lot about these applications that I’m used to using but it was all my foolishness to think like that. He told me that he read quite a few interesting articles about Customer Service Information and some MAC related articles for his MAC there. Later when I checked out the Microsoft Office category of that directory, I found out much new cool stuff that I could do with its application. I got to know about a lot of things in details that I didn’t know in the past like inserting a whole file in a document, decorating a page with borders ad colors, creating a nes style, highlighting parts, and numerous interesting articles on all the applications of Microsoft Office.

Now I’ve realized that even though you’ve learnt so much, there’s still more to discover and the best way is sharing your knowledge with others.

To connect with individual databases, JDBC requires drivers for each database. The JDBC driver gives out the connection to the database and implements the protocol for transferring the query and result from client to database. All advantages and disadvantages of two types of JDBC drivers are elaborated in detail.

JDBC-ODBC Bridge driver. This is a type 1 of JDBC bridge drivers, which translates all JDBC calls into ODBC calls and sends them to the ODBC driver. ODBC is a generic API. The JDBC-ODBC Bridge driver is recommended only for experimental use or when no other alternative is available. The main advantage of this JDBC bridge driver is that it allows access to almost any database, since the database’s ODBC drivers are already available. The disadvantages of this type of driver may appear in different occasions:

  • Since the Bridge driver is not written fully in Java, Type 1 drivers are not portable.
  • A performance issue is seen as a JDBC call goes through the bridge to the ODBC driver, then to the database, and this applies even in the reverse process. They are the slowest of all driver types.
  • The client system requires the ODBC Installation to use the driver.
  • Not good for the Web.

The distinctive characteristic of the second type of jdbc drivers are that these drivers convert JDBC calls into database-specific calls i.e. this driver is specific to a particular database. The distinctive characteristic of type 2 jdbc drivers are that they are typically offer better performance than the JDBC-ODBC Bridge as the layers of communication (tiers) are less than that of Type 1 and also it uses Native api which is Database specific. Disadvantages may be the following:

  • Native API must be installed in the Client System and hence type 2 drivers cannot be used for the Internet.
  • Like Type 1 drivers, it’s not written in Java Language which forms a portability issue.
  • If we change the Database we have to change the native api as it is specific to a database.
  • Mostly obsolete now.
  • Usually not thread safe.

If you have implemented a CRM strategy, you may be excited about sending emails, newsletters, and mailings to your customers. However, your emails and mailings are competing with many other emails in your customers’ inboxes. Your copy needs to stand out in order to make an impact. Here’s how you can draw your customers in:

1) Use great headlines or subject lines. What do your customers see first when they open their inbox? It should be an interesting and compelling subject line. Once they open their email, they should see an intriguing headline. Many businesses assume that they need to be “cutesy” or “edgy” in order to stand out, but this is not true. A humorous headline and subject line is often tricky, since you risk offending customers who do not share your sense of humor. A cutesy headline or subject line can come across as unprofessional. You do not have to stick with boring headlines, though. Try making your headlines newsy or offer a benefit in a headline and that will keep your readers reading.
