There comes a time for many site owners when they outgrow their first hosting plan and are ready to move up to a more powerful solution. While some may never be faced with this problem, chances are the majority of site owners will need to think about upgrading their web hosting plan at one time or another. Whether you simply want to expand and try new things or your site has grown to the point where it has run out of room, upgrading can be a pretty complicated process. Let’s look at some of the options that are available in this situation.
Standard Hosting – Bigger Limits. If you are simply running out room and you are otherwise happy with your cheapest hosting company, then you may just want to consider upgrading to one of their plans that offers a little more space. Before you make that final decision however, you’ll need to a do a little research on some other web hosting company plans. They vary greatly and you may end up spending even less money than you are now if you switch to a new host.
Virtual Private Server – This is a great solution for those who have outgrown regular hosting plans, but are not quite ready for a dedicated server. These plans typically have a decent amount of space and transfer and are well suited for middle level site owners that want a little more freedom and a lot more room.
Reseller Plans – Let’s say that your site has spawned a few spin-offs or you have a few new ideas that you’d like to try. While you can purchase a hosting plan for each domain, it is much more economical to find a cheap reseller hosting plan that will allow you to host multiple domains on one account. Again, these are usually quite economical and you’ll have a lot more freedom and control over your entire account.
Dedicated Servers – Managed – This is the most common type of dedicated server and is usually necessary for those who need advanced levels of disk space and transfer. The added bonus is that you are on the only one using the server, and you get complete control. The main downside is the expense. They can range from $99 all the way up to a few thousand a month.
