Toady while I was checking out the new thread in digitalpoint, I came to read about this crazy facts about Microsoft’s OS. I haven’t tried out this in others but these tweaks sure do work in my XP Service Pack 2.
Fact #1
Nobody can create a folder anywhere on the computer which can be named as “con”. Even if you try to rename an existing folder, it’s just not possible. Why this is happening is still an unanswered question.
Fact #2
This is something pretty cool and unbelievable. ..
At Microsoft the whole team, including Bill Gates, couldn’t answer why this happened!
Try it out yourself…
Open Microsoft Word and type “=rand (2,10)” without quoted and then press ENTER
Fact #3
1. Open an empty notepad file
2. Type “Bush hid the facts” (without the quotes)
3. Save it as whatever you want.
4. Close it, and re-open it.
Weird huh??

What a load or rubbish:
Fact 1:
The “team” at Microsoft, and a great many others besides, know perfectly well why you cannot name a folder “CON”.
“CON” and a number of other character strings are in fact reserved names that go back to the days of DOS and cannot be used to name folders or files.
And you can make it in command prompt anyway…
Fact 2:
Far from being a mystery, this is a well-documented feature of Microsoft Word that simply allows sample text to be quickly added to a document for testing purposes. Microsoft can in fact “explain the result” and does so in an article on the MS Support website.
Fact 3:
A certain combination and/or frequency of letters in the character string cause Notepad to misinterpret the encoding of the file when it is re-opened. If the file is originally saved as “Unicode” rather than “ANSI” the text displays correctly. Older versions of Notepad such as those that came with Windows 95, 98 or ME do not include Unicode support so the error does not occur.
Ruined that really…

That third one doesn’t work under vista. Tried it multiple times using various methods to open/save notepad.

1. CON is console device just like PRN is printer
2. =rand(2,10) is built in to allow quick population of text
3. The bug can be triggered by many sentences, including those that follow a particular structure: one word with 4 letters, two or more words with 3 letters, one word with 5 letters. Some phrases that will trigger this oddity are: “Bill can not dance”, “John has the parts”, “This app can break”, “This pad has bugzs” , “Feel the new power” , “Matrix can not lie” and even long phrase like “Einstein’s thought regarding mathematics motivated Dhilung Kirat thinkin mathematics wonderfully amazing languagez”.

Post the facts as facts, but keep the inane commentary out of this. MS has explanations for all of these tricks.

the rand command is a nice feature used by photocopier techs (such as myself!). By entering a number like 200, we can print a lot of pages quickly. this lets us check image quality, if the machine is networked correctly etc

Folks !!! I don’t know the details how this all happened. I just said that I came to know about his via the forum and that they really worked. For people who don’t know how this happened, it’s like a magic and for one who know the reason… i am thankful that they shared with me. So, i don’t thinks that there is any need for this post to be removed from my blog.
