youtub1.jpgHave you heard about YouTube? It’s the world’s largest video sharing website that holds together more than 60 million videos. Recently it has announced its intention to extend its coverage to a larger range of mobile device, in order to allow more than 100 million users to browse the website via their mobile phones. Now onwards YouTube will be accessible from select handsets made by Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Motorola and LG, besides the phones that already have YouTube capabilities. All phones must be 3G enabled ones and, in order to avoid high charges, it’s better for users to have unlimited data plans. Note that as stated on the site’s homepage: “YouTube Mobile is a data intensive application”, so high amounts of data are transferred when browsing from a mobile phone.
In addition to expanding the range of mobile phones that can access the site, YouTube is also preparing software that will be embedded into phones like Nokia and Sony Ericsson to enable an easier and direct video upload, in order to rapidly increase the site’s content. The improved Mobile YouTube also brings new stuff, mostly related to personalization features and new community options. YouTube’s mobile-product will have the full YouTube desktop experience on our mobile phones. Of course, limited by the handsets’ screens, which are quite small when compared to a desktop PC display.
However, having access to the most popular video library while on the go is definitely a great thing for most mobile users, and YouTube expects its mobile traffic to increase substantially. Most probably, after the traffic increases, we will see Google ads on the Mobile YouTube site. The YouTube Mobile site with extended phones compatibility will be available in 17 countries and 11 languages, bringing its huge base of videos to more and more mobile users.

You must have known about the Patent rights and Trademark. On this last Tuesday 22 Jan 2008, the US Patent and Trademark Office issued a patent on “a mobile entertainment and communication device”.

It’s a patent for a mobile phones with removable storage (memory card), an internet connection (GPRS/EDGE), a camera (VGA/MP) and the ability to download audio (mp3/wav) or video (3gp/ mp4) files. Removable storage indicates memory card, an internet connection needs WAP/GPRS or EDGE, a camera indicates minimum VGA or MegaPixel cameras and finally audio and video download supporting capabilities must be included in the mobile sets. It describes like a quite common Smartphone. The patent holding firm who has the rights to this patent wasted no time at all. At the same Tuesday morning, it filed three separate court case against just about everyone you can think of. That’s a total of 33 defendants prosecuted just minutes after this patent issued. And what a patent it is! The ‘783 patent has 125 claims. The broadest claim appears directed to a cell phone with a wireless internet connection, a memory card, a microprocessor, a display panel for displaying internet data. So far, so broad it also required one of the following: voice dialing, wireless earphone, or wired earphone with microphone. And also required are that the phone is capable from downloading one of the following from the internet: videos, music, or videos and music combined. The patent has a little over 4 columns in the specification, but has almost 32 columns of claims.

040826111420_31.gifDo you hae a updated strong Antivirus installed on your PC or Laptop? Are you sure, it will get your system immune of any kind of attacks of viruses? The answer maybe yes, it does. But what if your Antivius is sleeping? You might get surprise by the term ‘Sleeping’. Let me clear you this. You all know that when system boots, your Antivirus is not yet activated. At that time, it may be called as ‘Sleeping’; if your pen drive or floppy, which might have unknown hidden viruses that have brought from others, is inserted may copy to your system automatically. And your system may be infected. Don’t you believe?
In computing, booting (booting up) is a bootstrapping process that starts operating systems when the user turns on a computer system. A boot sequence is the set of operations the computer performs when it is switched on that loads an operating system. The boot device is the device from which the operating system is loaded. A modern PC BIOS supports booting from various devices. These include the local hard disk drive (or partitions on a hard disk), floppy, optical disc drive, a SCSI device, Zip drive, LS-120, a network interface card using PXE and a USB device (USB-FDD, USB-ZIP, USB-CDROM, USB-HDD, USB flash drive). Typically, the BIOS will allow the user to configure a boot order. If the boot order is set to “firstly, the DVD drive; secondly, the hard disk drive”, then the BIOS will try to boot from the DVD drive, and if this fails (e.g. because there is no DVD in the drive), it will try to boot from the local hard drive. So, if you leave a pendrive or floppy disk in your PC unplugged, then during booting process, your system may scan it and the viruses may be loaded to your system before your Antiviruses get awake. So, don’t insert them before or during the OS booting.
So always it’s safe to take out floppy, pen drive or any removable disks out when you are not using them. Because, they might cost you pay very high. And also always scan them by your trusted updated Antivirus after inserting them in their drives.

screenshot0004.jpgDo you know how to take a picture of your computer’s screen while doing your works? Most of you’ll answer yes I do? Ok good…the shortcut to take a shot of screen is Ctrl + Print Screen keys of your keyboard. Now, who can tell me about taking a shot of screen in mobile phones? If you don’t know then here is the solution… great software Mobile ScreenShot. Note that your phone must be Symbian OS. The version ScreenShot Ver 2.45, I’ve used is a freeware. Just install its various versions according to your mobile phones and feel the great.

Now, I’ll tell you how to use it.

After installing it, run the application Scrnshot from your mobile

Then get back from the software clicking Back key of phone. The application is still running in your mobile phone. You can see it by holding your menu key for few seconds.

Now you are ready to take pictures of your screen. Click edit (pencil icon) key on your keypad of phone with the very <joystick> or <ok> key. Note that it is the default shortcut for clicking the picture. You can change it to edit + <*> key or edit + <#> key. handyzip.jpgHave you ever used the Internet, America Online, or CompuServe? If so, you’ve probably encountered Zip files. Are you a Windows user? If so, WinZip is the way to handle these archived files. Handy Zip is the mobile version of WinZip. WinZip® brings the convenience of Windows to the use of Zip files and other compression formats. Similar is the case of Handy Zip in mobile.

Have you ever used WinRAR for archive files? Archives are files that contain other files, and Rar files are the most common archive format. Typically, the files in an archive are compressed. Similar is the MobileRAR, a powerful tool which allows you to create, manage and control archive files on phone memory or memory card.

These applications need a Symbian OS in your mobile to be installed. These two applications are the complete support of RAR and ZIP archives. To browse and manage files inside an archive, run the application Handy zip or MobileRar, scroll to the archive and press the scroll keys. To view a file inside the archive, scroll to the file and press the scroll key. You can also add files inside the archive, extract a file from the archive, and set a password, clear a password. You are free to add multiple files or folders to your archive.

Frequency division multiple access (FDMA) is the first-generation analog mobile access method; FDMA uses separate freauencies for each call. For example if there are four stations, each will receive their own frequency. Thus there is no interference between them. This reduces interference, but limits the number of users. Time division multiple access (TDMA) allocates unique time slots to each user within each channel, thus allowing many users to access the radio frequency without anyone’s interference. Each mobile conversation uses only a particular frequency slot of the time. Code division multiple access (CDMA) was commercially introduced in 1995 by Qualcomm, CDMA quickly became one of the world’s fastest-growing wireless technologies. 3G CDMA networks provide more capacity for voice traffic, along with high-speed data capabilities, hence many cellular service providers are now building or upgrading to it. CDMA is used in both 2G and 3G wireless technologies. Global system for mobile communications (GSM) was developed on TDMA protocol in Europe, GSM is now the worldwide standard technology for mobile communications. The advantage of GSM is that it provides a high level of security, globally accepted technology standards and superior sound quality. For any GSM phone to work, it requires a Subscriber Identity Module (SIM), a card that contains your telephone account information. Thus, an national GSM phone can be used in other foreign countries too.

Wireless technology platforms: GPRS, EDGE and WAP

GPRS, short for General Packet Radio Services, is an enhancement to GSM technology that integrates GSM and IP technology. GPRS offers always-on, high speed connectivity to the Net. Thus you can check your email on the move and surf the Web at high speeds. In this hi-tech age, people on the move need any-time access to the Net. This is where WAP comes in. It provides Internet access to cell phones. It is an open standard for wireless protocols that is independent of the service providers. To display Web content, the cell phone must have a WAP browser. Nowadays, cell phones often come with GPRS and WAP technology. WAP and GPRS also allow you to download games, send mail and even transfer your messages to your PC. The new EDGE ((Enhanced Data GSM Environment) interface has been developed specifically to meet the bandwidth needs of 3G. Promoted by Ericsson, it offers high-speed data transfers over GSM networks with just a software upgrade to the handset. EDGE allows speeds up to 384 kbps.

Nokia is regarded as one of the top cell phone producer. Recently, Nokia reported a 57 percentage sharp growth in its earnings per share during last two months of 2007 due to rocketing demand of Nokia products in emerging markets and peaked its global market share to 40 percentage. Nokia’s last quarter earnings per share, minus one-off items, increased higher to 0.47 Euros though it was forecasted average 0.44 Euros earlier in a Reuter’s poll of 34 analysts. The product did better job by beating its forecast. In fourth quarter, demand for cheap phones increased sharply in Asian markets.

Shares in Nokia decreased steeply on the news and were up 14.3 percent at 23.71 Euros in early trading. Nokia sold 133.5 million phones in the quarter and beating analysts’ average forecast of 130.7 million phones in the poll. The sales of Nokia product itself was more than its three closest rivals combined together. Do you know who its closet competitors are? Of course they are Sony Ericsson, Motorola and Samsung Cell Phones. The Finnish company has a strong lead in emerging markets including China and India, which it has been fiercely defending. Nokia and other large vendors increased their market share in the quarter at the expense of struggling Motorola, which said it would post an operating loss in the current quarter as recovery in its cell phone business was taking longer than expected. Whatever Motorola is losing, Nokia is gaining. And that trend was true throughout 2007, and the question is whether it will continue through 2008. If it will, Nokia is sure to cover the market more than 50 percentage by upgrading numbers. Nokia said it expected its market share to stay at the 40 percent level in the first quarter, but it is targeting market share growth in 2008. The average price of phones sold rose from the previous quarter to 83 Euros, beating analysts’ average expectation of 82 Euros. Helped by its larger scale, Nokia boasts much stronger profit margins than its rivals; the operating profit margin from its three cell phone business units grew to 23.8 percent. Its closest rivals in terms of profitability, Sony Ericsson and Samsung Electronics, reported profit margins of 13 percent and 11.4 percent, respectively. And top of all Nokia ruled the market by 40 percentages in terms of profitability.

samsung_i8.jpgA few years back Samsung created the Xacti line of sports camcorders which came with secondary lenses (one model even went wireless) and recorded directly to SD cards in MPEG4. Building on that base, Samsung’s new model ‘ Samsung i8’ is the latest in a line of hybrid cameras that not only shoot digital stills with 8.1 mega pixel resolution, but can also work as an music player (mp3 player) or a media player that shows movies in MPEG4 or DivX format. Along with this marvelous product, Samsung Converter software comes to allow you to encode any movie into the right format. Isn’t this product amazing? Now, you don’t need to take your i-pod with you. I am going to leave my i-pod at home after getting one.

What are really cool are its looks, color and style. You can see in figure; how appealing, fair and sexy it is. Sure you will get surprised when you would hear about its internal built-in memory. Its 200 MB. Wow! As well as you can extend it with SD memory card up to 16GB or more. But I think for pictures, its internal memory is quite enough. Now without external memory card also, don’t ever hesitate to click the pictures whenever and wherever you want.

After clicking the pictures, preview them in 2.7 inches big LCD screen. Thumbs up! Though the only one defeat is it is price, it’s too expensive i. e. $300.

n95-vs-w960i.gif

Sony Ericsson has launched the 8 GB touch screen W960i Walkman phone. With room for up to 8,000 songs and finger-touch navigation around playlists, the phone also has a 2.6″ display and a 3.2 megapixel camera. It can be hooked up to the Web using the 3G network or via a Wi-Fi access point. The W960i Walkman phone features a 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus within its 16mm frame, and allows picture messaging, email or picture blogging. It incorporates Sony Ericsson’s TrackID music recognition software, that lets users record a clip of a song on their phone and find out instantly the name of the artist, track and album. The W960i Walkman phone comes bundled with a stereo portable handsfree, is UMTS 2100-GSM/GPRS 900/1800/1900 and available in Vinyl Black.

Whereas Nokia N95 has Up to 5 megapixel (2592 x 1944 pixels) camera Carl Zeiss optics Tessar lens, MPEG-4 VGA video capture of up to 30 fps, Video and still image editors, Front camera CIF (352 x 288) sensor, Integrated flash Flash modes: on, off, automatic, redeye reduction, Direct connection to compatible TV via Nokia Video Connectivity Cable (CA-75U, included in box) or wireless LAN/UpnP, etc. Its operating frequency is WCDMA2100 (HSDPA), EGSM900, GSM850/1800/1900 MHz (EGPRS). It digital music player - supports MP3/AAC/AAC+/eAAC+/WMA/M4A with playlists and equalizer along with integrated handsfree speaker. I can’t just keep counting its features, because the list goes on increasing.

Nokia N95 8GB cell phone is the first in the world to receive Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) certification. DLNA is a body advocating the interoperability of wired and wireless consumer devices. DLNA certification would mean “convenient and intuitive connectivity” between your future DLNA Certified home electronics devices, including personal computers, and your Nokia N95 8GB.

As far as looks are concerned, you cannot really win over Sony Ericsson (SE). The W960i feels great in hand as compared to the Nokia (N95), which comes out to be a bit thick sliding. The glossy front and the velvet back add to the appeal and also the feel. Buttons are better than the N95 and you’ll surely love those hidden music touch buttons. Coming to the OS, both devices run on Symbian OS 9.1, but the N95 has S60 which scores more than the W960 in the ease of use. Surely, for people who are addicted to S60 phones, it’ll take them a day or two to get used to the W960, but once you do that, the W960 turns into a wonderful piece of equipment. It is easy to navigate through the N95, but you must note that the W960 is a touch screen with UIQ 3.0.

I don’t doubt the greatness of the N95, but if you want a phone which gives you immense satisfaction in all departments, go with the Sony Ericsson W960i. It’s a wonderful phone capable of stealing many eyes once you take it out in the open. There’s everything, a 3.2M camera, 8 GB, Walkman, Touch screen, 3G, Wi-Fi and the great looks. The touchscreen is really great. Customization in the W960 is far more advanced than Nokia as it gives three options - a standard view, a walkman view and a business view of the home screen, all 3 of which are unique. Coming to the camera front, the N95 bags the awards with its 5MP Carl Zeiss Optics which delivers marvelous pictures and videos. But the W960 also gives decent picture quality with its 3.2 MP camera with 2 photo lights. There’s no argument about the memory as both devices boast 8 GB of inbuilt memory plus 100+ phone memory for contacts, messages, etc. Now over to the music department, the W960 offers excellent sound with its headset provided. Visualizations are something you’ll surely love.

Hey Nokia users having Symbian Operating System (OS), be aware of the new disaster named SymbOS/Beselo.A!worm, which is spreading wildly in Symbian enabled mobile phones. Fortinet, a security vendor, has uncovered a malicious Worm that is actively spreading on mobile phone networks having SymbianOS incliuding Nokia 6600, 6630, 6680, 7610, N70 and N72 handsets.T his malware is disguised as a multimedia file (MMS) with an evocative name either Beauty.jpg, Sex.mp3 or Love.rm. This is deceiving users into unknowingly installing the malicious software onto their phones.

Unlike Microsoft Windows, SymbianOS types files based on their contents and not their extensions, so it is worth noting that recipients of infected MMS would still be presented with an installation dialogue upon “clicking” on the attachment. The recipients of infected MMS would be presented with an installation dialogue upon “clicking” on the attachment and install the malicious piece of software. After installation, the worm harvests all the phone numbers from the phone’s contact lists and targets them with a viral MMS carrying .SIS worm file. In addition to harvesting these numbers, the malware also sends itself to generated numbers as well.

Though this mobile malware is still pretty rare, but it has made the occasional appearance in the past, despite suspicions that these warnings were simply a way to promote a vendor’s products.

Always be cautious while receiving MMS and other multimedia files through Bluetooth. Always connect to PC carefully while connecting your mobile sets. Your PC may have got viruses that can harm your mobile or your mobile virus/worm may transfer to your PC. Symbian users must not to say yes to any .jpg, .mp3, or .rm files trying to install themselves on your phone. You better install one good AntiVirus in your mobile like good AntiVirus in your PC. Note that, you are supposed to update your virus definition every day or week.
