get-your-data-back.jpgFILERECOVERY® for Windows is a safe and affordable do-it-yourself data recovery solution that is designed to recover lost and deleted files from all types of media such as hard drives, floppy drives, CompactFlash, and other types of removable media. This software recovers files whether they have been deleted from the command line, from within an application, Windows Explorer, or removed from the Recycle Bin. In addition it recovers formatted or lost drives and drives with a severe logical file system damage. This software will scan the drive and bring up list of files which can be saved from the scanned drive. Especially for forensic application the list of recovered and reconstructed files and folders can be saved to disk as well as printed out. To preserve the drive with the lost or deleted files, all recovered files must be saved to another storage device or another drive letter in the system. It is a non-destructive read-only application and will not write or make changes to the drive it is recovering from. Second hard disk is recommended for recovery.

ADVANTAGES

  • Access to all the file systems — FAT12/16, FAT32 and NTFS.
  • Standard write using Windows® API minimizes the chance of disk corruption.
  • Since it has access to the Windows® virtual memory, this eliminates the file and drive size limitations associated with a DOS based program.
  • Full access to the network and other installed peripherals such as Zip, SyQuest and external hard drive.
  • Compatibility with Stripe Sets RAID and Mirrored Drives.
  • Easy to use and a fully automated wizard, which walks the user through the program.
  • More than a Windows recycle-bin.

This software is NOT able to find data on a physically damaged drive. Not every file can be undeleted: less fragmentation (common if media not full) will increase the rate of recovery because the entire data is stored at the beginning of the first cluster of a file.
The probability of recovery is lower, the smaller the disk capacity relative to the file size is. When a file is deleted from a FAT32 drive in 2000/XP environment, the higher order value of the starting cluster gets lost. Hence it is not possible for FILERECOVERY® to correctly predict the starting location of the deleted entry. Therefore, it reconstructs the file by using all the possible values of the starting cluster higher order value and leaves it up to the user to find out the correct file.

Using Remote Assistance, you can allow someone you know to connect to your computer over the Internet, chat with you, and observe your computer screen as you work. With your permission, he or she can use their keyboard and mouse as you work together to solve your problem. Remote Assistance, which is also known as Online Assistance, lets you invite a friend to connect to your computer and help you with problems. Using Remote Assistance, you can allow someone you know to connect to your computer over the Internet, chat with you, and observe your computer screen as you work. With your permission, he or she can use their keyboard and mouse as you work together to solve your problem.

Sometimes the best way to fix a problem is to have someone shows you how. Remote Assistance is a convenient way for a friend in another location to connect to your computer from another computer running a compatible operating system, such as Microsoft Windows XP, and walk you through your solution. After your friends is connected, he or she will be able to view your computer screen ad chat online with you in real time about ha you both see. With your permission, your friends can even use his or her mouse and keyboard to work with you on your computer.

You can run it on your Windows XP, Start Menu à All Programs à Remote Assistance. Or simply go to run and type rcimlby.exe.

But you must note that both you and your assistant must be using either Windows Messenger or a MAPI- compliant e-mail account such as Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express. You and your assistant need to be connected to the Internet while using Remote Assistance. If Windows Firewall is turned on, Remote Assistance will temporarily open firewall ports. If you are working on a corporate or local area network, firewalls might stop you from using Remote Assistance. In this case, check with your network administrator before using Remote Assistance.

Hewlett-Packard announced investments in renewable energy as part of efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from its operations. The computing giant said it will install a 1-megawatt solar array in its San Diego facility. SunPower will install its solar panels and sell the electricity the panels generate to HP at fixed rates under a power purchase agreement. The system will save HP $750,000 over 15 years and offset 1 million pounds of carbon dioxide per year, the equivalent of taking 100 cars off the road each year. The San Diego installation will be made up of 5,000 panels on seven buildings. It’s a relatively large solar array, but smaller than Google’s 1.6-megawatt solar array, which is thought to be the largest corporate installation to date in the United States. As part of the deal, HP employees are eligible for a $2,000 rebate for purchasing solar electric panels from SunPower, an amount that HP will match. In Ireland, HP has contracted with wind developer Airtricity to purchase 80 gigawatt hours of renewable electricity in 2008. That arrangement will reduce HP’s energy costs by $40,000 next year and eliminate the release of 40,000 tons of carbon dioxide, it said. HP is considered a leader in environmental awareness and corporate social responsibility. Last year, it bought 11 million kilowatt hours of renewable energy to fuel its operations.

What is it?

Voice over internet protocol (VoIP), digital voice, or internet calling: they’re all referring to the same thing. VoIP calls are like regular phone calls, only your voice is carried over the internet instead of phone cables or mobile networks. With a broadband subscription, VoIP service, and VoIP-enabled phone, you can make calls—even long-distance ones—at cheap prices or even for free.

Why would I use it?

You may already use your PC to call distant friends using Skype or similar internet calling software, or have a permanent “broadband phone” at home. But if your Nokia mobile phone can make VoIP calls, you don’t need to be sitting in front of your computer to make an internet voice call, and you don’t need any special headset to talk. The greatest advantage of having a mobile phone with VoIP is that you can make all your calls, whether cellular or over the internet, with just one device.

What can I do with it?

With VoIP, you can talk to your friends and business contacts, without adding talk time on your mobile phone bill. Calling using VoIP with your phone feels and sounds just like a regular phone calls. All you need is a phone with VoIP, a VoIP service provider, and a connection to the internet.
Exactly how you use VoIP depends on the service you’re using. You can usually call someone on a computer or VoIP phone number without any extra cost. If you call a land-line or mobile phone, however, your VoIP signal must be converted to a regular telephone signal, which usually involves a subscription service.

Here are some ways you can use VoIP on your phone:

· At home or at the office

If you use a WLAN for your home or work network and have a service agreement with a SIP VoIP service provider, you can use your phone to make cheap or free VoIP calls. There’s no need to sit in front of your computer or use any devices other than your phone. The best part is, you can be reached conveniently by all of your callers at one number, with one device.

· Out on the town

You can make VoIP calls from your favorite restaurant, for example. Your mobile or broadband service provider may have WLAN “hotspots”– wireless internet access points – around town. Some restaurants and school campuses also have their own hotspots available for their customers and students, and you may even find a public WLAN hotspot with free access for everyone.

Hamilton Sundstrand and US Renewables Group in Santa Monica, Calif., would use molten salt to store the sun’s heat, which will then be converted to electrical power that could be added to utilities’ grids at times of peak demand. The plan’s use of molten salt overcomes the problem of storing solar power collected on sunny days, but is needed at night or during cloudy days.

Molten salt, a mixture of sodium and potassium nitrate, circulates through a central receiver, is heated by sunlight to more than 1,000 degrees, stored in a tank and dispatched into a steam generator. The steam drives a turbine that generates electricity. The cooled salt re-circulates and the process begins again.

The salt, natural storage device, loses only 1 percent of its heat per day, which is far better than water and other materials, said Dan Coulom, a spokesman for Hamilton Sundstrand.

The Hamilton Sundstrand Rocketdyne segment, which makes liquid metal and molten salt heat transfer systems, is the prime contractor for the International Space Station electric power system. The project, which is expected to begin generating electricity in three or four years, would produce up to 500 megawatts of peak power a year. That’s enough to supply electricity to about 250,000 to 500,000 homes, depending on time of day, according to the U.S. Department of Energy. Revenue of $1 billion is expected over 10 to 15 years.

Mozilla is working to fix a browser fault that could give attackers unauthorized access to data on a victim’s machine. Firefox is investigating the issue and has rated it as a low-severity problem. But who know’s that it may be worse to you and me, Mozilla Firefox Users.

Gerry Eisenhaur was the first person to find out this problem, the problem that could lead to data leakage. According to his research, “The problem is similar to other data leakage flaws found in the open-source browser”. He has posted sample code that reads the contents of a Mozilla Thunderbird preferences file, but he believes that attackers could get access to more information with variations on his attack. He wrote in his blog posting, “It’s possible to load any JavaScript file on a victim’s machine,” “This looks very interesting and may have bigger potential, but for now, it’s just another information disclosure.” “It could become something more if there was an application that stored sensitive data inside JavaScript files,” “Some plugins have been known to store usernames and passwords.” “It’s also just a powerful way to do recon,”

Hackers have discovered a number of leaks or flaws in recent months that take advantage of the way that browsers pass information between different components within the Windows operating system. Some of these URI (Uniform Resource Identifier) protocol handler flaws have led to serious security problems for both Firefox and Internet Explorer. Mozilla’s security chief Window Snyder said in her blog posting that this latest flaw affects only certain Firefox add-ons, such as the Download Statusbar or Greasemonkey, which store scripts in a fashion that lets them be, discovered on the hard drive.

But don’t get panic; Mozilla is trying to fix the fault. The users like me and you should be always be cautious about these kind of faults and flaws.

text-scrolling-radios.jpgNational Public Radio (NPR) and Harris Corp., a major supplier of broadcasting equipment, as well as a new research center at Towson University, unveiled a new text-based broadcasts technology. NPR and its partners displayed a prototype text radio which would show what’s being said on the radio using a receiver with a screen that would scroll text much like closed captions roll by on TV where someone types what’s being said on the radio into a computer system in real time.

This kind of text-based broadcasts would work just as digital broadcasting — known as HD Radio technology, which allows broadcasters to split their signal into multiple transmissions. Some stations use the extra capacity to broadcast additional music or talk radio channels, which can be heard on HD Radio receivers. The new scrolling-text service would also use this extra capacity, but instead of broadcasting music it would send out streams of data that would be converted to scrolling text by the receivers and then displayed on the screen.

The group eventually hopes to find software to translate speech into written text and automate the service and reduce the cost to provide it so a wider variety of radio stations can offer it. NPR and its partners are also developing new technologies to make programming more accessible to deaf and blind people. They are working on making radios able to provide audio signal for the blind and visually impaired that would indicate what frequency the radio is tuned to, among other functions, and giving greater access to services such as InTouch Networks, which provides broadcasts and online audio feeds of volunteers reading from newspapers and magazines.

Some Web sites, for e.g., Hotmail and Yahoo, provide e-mail service to anyone who wants it. They work as follows.

They have normal message transfer agents listening to port 25 for incoming SMTP connections. To contact, say, Hotmail, you have to acquire their DNS MX record, for e.g., by typing

Host –a –v hotmail.com

on a UNIX system. Suppose that the mail server is called mx10.hotmail.com, then by typing

telnet mx10.hotmail.com 25

you can establish a TCP connection over which SMTP commands can be sent in the usual way. So far, nothing unusual, except that these big servers are often busy, so it may take several attempts to get a TCP connection accepted.

The interesting part is how e-mail is delivered. Basically, when the user goes to the e-mail Web page, a from is presented in which the user is asked for a login name and password. When the user clicks on Sign In, the login name and password are sent to the server, which then validates them. If the login is successful, the server finds the user’s mailbox and builds a listing only formatted as a Web page in HTML. The Web page is then sent to the browser for display. Many of the items on the page are clickable, so messages can be read, deleted, and so on.

iring.gif

All guys likes iPod, its music is awesome. But most of them must have felt that it’s a tiresome job to take out your iPod from the pocket every time you want to skip the playing song and switch to next track or even increase/decrease the volume. I always wished if I had some kind of supernatural power to do such things with a single thought. Just a thought in my mind and tracks and volume gets changed. And when I heard about the amazing cool gadget called “iRing”, it’s like my dreams came true.

It’s not a supernatural power, but just a power of modern technology. iRing is a just like a normal ring that fits in your finger but the amazing thing is that it provides you with wireless connections to any of your Apple media devices like iPod and iPhone within a maximum range of 10 meters. iRing has got a bright OLED status display with touch-sensitive function strip. Tap the Apple icon to toggle between Play and Pause functions. Tap the touch strip to the left or right to the Apple icon to skip the previous or next song respectively. Slide your finger across the touch sensitive surface to control the volume. Now you just need a second to switch between music tracks, increase/decrease volumes, stop, play and pause the track without taking your iPod out of your pocket. To lock the ring from unintentional commands, bond your ring finger to squeeze the tow rubber pads. Also, when you buy one, you will also get the iRing charger to recharge its battery. Battery life goes up to 2 days once it is charged.

Have an engagement with Apple through wearing iRing. It’s the coolest, stylish techno gadget you want to wear wherever you go. But bad news, it can get connected with only one device at a time. You can connect with any Apple devices but only one at a time. Overall, it is great stuff to buy. I am sure that people who love their iPod will love iRing too. This gadget would really make life a lot easier for iPod users and I am sure they will rush to get one of the iRing.
